DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES
The open competitive examinations for Director of Facilities I, II and III scheduled for December 7, 2013 have been cancelled. The Department of Civil Service has been informed that legislative changes are being proposed to address issues raised by various parties. As these proposed changes may impact the examination, it is necessary for the Department to cancel the scheduled examinations.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a phone scam that is generating in the Cattaraugus County Area. Residents are receiving phone calls from individuals stating that they are from the Federal Government informing tax payers that they have won Federal Grant Monies. Residents are being instructed to go to aWestern Unionand wire $250.00 in order to receive their grant prize money.
Individuals receiving these calls should never give out personal information or wire any funds. If you are a victim of this scam, notify your local law enforcem
Father’s, stepdads, grandfather’s, foster dads or any male in a father role is welcome to attend a father’s group beginning September 19, 2013. The group will meet from 6-8pm on Thursdays at the Depot at JCC’s Olean Campus.

The Jeannie C. Farrell Award of Achievement is presented annually to a single Probation Officer in New York State who, among the many, goes above and beyond required duties and achieves results which deserve special recognition.
All County property owners who have a BASIC STAR on their property are now starting to receive letters from the state about renewing. Those who are 65+ and receiving the ENHANCED STAR need not worry about this. You will still renew every year with your Assessor like you do now. The Cattaraugus County Probation Office is pleased to announce the formation of the “Project Re-entry Program”. The Re-entry program is an employability service provided through the Cattaraugus County Probation Department in conjunction with the Department of Social Services. Referrals to this program come from the Cattaraugus County Probation Department as well as the New York State Division of Parole, Federal Probation, and Alternatives to Incarceration programs.
The Program is staffed by Liz Palumbo a Re-entry Specialist and Gloria Rosenthal an Employment
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Bow Hunters’ Education Class on the following dates and time: Tuesday, September 3, 2013 and Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The class will be held at the Hideaway Archery,12749 Cottage Rd.,Dayton,New York.
There is no charge for the class. Participants must attend both days of instruction to receive a certificate. It is preferable that participants be at least 12 years of age. If a parent wants an 11-year-old to take the class, the parent must attend and sit with the child on both days
Two area youth are the proud recipients of new mountain bikes, courtesy of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Employees Benevolent Association and the New York State Police. Every year at the Cattaraugus County Fair in Little Valley, boys and girls are eligible to enter a drawing for one boy’s bicycle and one girl’s bicycle.
