...MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL IMPACT WAYNE...CAYUGA ANDNORTHERN MONROE COUNTIES...At 600 AM EST, a band of moderate to heavy lake effect snow extendedfrom the Lake Ontario shoreline north of Rochester across WayneCounty to northern Cayuga counties. Snow within the band will fallat a rate of one to two inches an hour through 8 AM while slowlypushing north. Sites that will be most affected early this morningwill include Webster, Sodus, Ontario, Williamson, North Rose andCato.Travel will be greatly affected in these areas early thismorning...including the Rochester metropolitan area where roads aresnow covered. Slick travel can also be expected on the New YorkState Thruway between Montezuma and Weedsport, which includes Exits40 and 41.Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this band ofheavy lake effect snow. Be prepared for very poor visibility anddeep snow cover on some roadways.

...MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW IN THE AREA THROUGH 5 AM...At 301 AM EST, a thin band of heavy snow was located from the southside of Syracuse through Cazenovia to Sherburne to near Oneonta.This was embedded within a larger band of light to moderate snowthat was stretched across the general area.Though the heavier band of snow will tend to diminish through 5AM...snowfall rates may still exceed an inch per hour. The dry andfluffy nature of the snow will also make it prone to blowing anddrifting due to northwest winds. Visibility will drop below a mileat times.Locations impacted include...Onondaga, Auburn, De Witt, Oneonta, Van Buren, Norwich, Pompey,Solvay, Eaton, and Tully. This includes Interstate 81 betweenSyracuse and Cortland.Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Beprepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extratime when traveling.
