...A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT...SOUTHEASTERNSENECA...EASTERN SCHUYLER...NORTHWESTERN BROOME...SOUTHEASTERNCAYUGA...NORTHEASTERN CHEMUNG...CORTLAND...NORTHERN TIOGA...SOUTHCENTRAL ONONDAGA AND TOMPKINS COUNTIES UNTIL 600 AM EDT...At 511 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms alonga line extending from near Townsendville to Erin. Movement wasnortheast at 45 mph.Wind gusts of 40 mph will be possible with these storms. This isstrong enough to cause minor tree damage such as broken branches,and perhaps a few power outages. Small hail is also possible.Locations impacted include...Ithaca, Cortland, Newfield, Cayuga Heights, Lansing, Enfield, Danby,Homer, Caroline and Virgil.

Movement was northeastat 40 mph.Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible withthese storms. This is strong enough to cause minor tree damage suchas broken branches, and perhaps a few power outages.Locations impacted include...Ithaca, Elmira, Corning, Southport, Big Flats, Horseheads, Newfield,Hector, Elmira Heights and Cayuga Heights.

Since muchof the region has already experienced significant rainfall overthe past 36 hours, the soils are nearly saturated and anyadditional heavy rain will quickly lead to rapid rises ofcreeks and smaller rivers, increasing the threat of flooding.* Persons in flood prone areas or near streams should be preparedto take action quickly if heavy rain occurs or rising water isobserved.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT SATURDAY...The Flash Flood Watch continues for* A portion of western New York...including the followingcounties...Allegany...Cattaraugus...Chautauqua...Southern Erieand Wyoming.* Until 8 AM EDT Saturday.* A complex of thunderstorms nearing southwest New York Statethis evening is expected to expand into a very moist airmass,and track across Western New York overnight. Heaviest rainfallwithin these storms is expected across the Southern Tier, andalso Southern Erie and Wyoming counties. Some of these stormswill contain torrential downpours, and may produce localizedrainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches within an hour or two withflash flooding possible through the overnight hours.* Urban areas, small streams, and areas with steep terrain aremost susceptible to flash flooding.
