...INCREASING RISK OF DOWNED TREES AND POWERLINES TONIGHT...Northeast wind gusts increasing to around 40 mph this evening areresulting in more easily downed trees and powerlines across theNiagara Frontier, Rochester, and the Lake Erie shoreline. Theunusual wind direction for strong winds, combined with wet, thawedground conditions, and heavy wet snow loading on tree limbs willmore easily bring down trees and powerlines tonight.Prepare for possible power outages overnight by charging phonesand other necessary devices now while you have power, and makingsure flashlights and portable radios have batteries. If using agenerator, make sure it is located away from the house and wellexhaust is well ventilated to prevent the build up of dangerouscarbon monoxide.

Rain changing to heavy wet snow into this evening for the higher elevations and overnight for the lower elevations. Heaviest snow late tonight through Friday morning, then diminishing Friday afternoon through evening. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Friday. Tree damage and scattered power outages expected from gusty winds and weight of snow. Winds gusting 35-45 mph Friday will cause blowing and drifting snow.
