These thunderstorms will produce brief periods of very heavyrainfall as they move across western Chautauqua County. Cloud toground lightning will also impact Findlay Lake and Chautauqua Lake.Locations impacted include...Jamestown, Dunkirk, Fredonia, Westfield, Lakewood, Mayville, Clymer,Long Point State Park, Jamestown West and Lake Erie State Park.This includes the following highways...Interstate 90 between exits 61 and 60.Interstate 86 between exits 4 and 11.Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may causelocalized flooding. ...National Weather Service Cold Water Safety Message...* The warm air temperatures tomorrow in the upper 60s may causepeople to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatureswhich are currently only in the upper 40s across Lake Champlain,and in the lower 50s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers.* The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia toanyone immersed in the water. According to the US Coast Guard,when the water temperatures are below 50 degrees, the chance ofimmediate incapacitation due to cold shock is extremely high.Anyone on small boats, canoes or kayaks should plan accordinglyif recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid thisthreat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your lifejacket!* Strong winds are also expected this weekend with gusts up to 24mph from the northwest. If boating on large bodies of water,these strong winds can increase the likelihood of overturningyour boat,canoe or kayak due to increased wave heights.
