The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.

Cattaraugus County is a member of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus-Allegany Region Emergency Support Citizen Corps or CCARES Council.

There are two main branches of Citizen Corps Volunteer Opportunities in Cattaraugus County:

  • CERT - Community Emergency Response Team

  • MRC - Medical Reserve Corps

Both Citizen Corps groups are organized under Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services.

Our local CERT is based in Olean, NY and members are trained individuals with an interest in serving their community.  CERT members may be called upon in an emergency to perform various tasks such as shelter registration, providing meals to responders, light search and rescue, and animal sheltering.  In fullfilling these roles, CERT members often work closely with the Office of Emergency Services staff, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Medical Reserve Corps.

See below to download a volunteer interest form for CERT, send to the Office of Emergency Services and we will contact you to join the next scheduled CERT training program. Click here for more information about CERT or call (716) 938-2240.

Our local MRC is the Allegany Cattaraugus Chautauqua County Medical Reserve Corps ("ACC MRC").  The ACC MRC is a three county cooperative organization with members from and serving all three counties of Southwestern New York.  ACC MRC members are individuals with medical training or related background interested in assisting with public health needs during an emergency.  ACC MRC members staff events such as vaccine clinics, shelters, and public health outreach events.  Members of the group are experienced medical office staff, emergency medical personnel, nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, athletic trainers and more!

See below to download an MRC volunteer enrollment form, send to the Office of Emergency Services and we will add you to the list of MRC volunteers.  Click here for more information about MRC or call (716) 938-2213.
