Do you know how to properly manage development in your floodplains in order to minimize the risk of flood-related damage and destruction and to maintain compliance with federal requirements?
Are you uncertain of the rules and regulations of the National Flood Insurance Program? Unsure of exactly how to issue a floodplain development permit? Uncertain of what activities must receive a floodplain development permit? Do you know where to go for all the information needed?
To provide you with practical information, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as the state NFIP coordinating agency, is offering this free workshop to help you meet your obligations under the National Flood Insurance Program. All appropriate community personnel are urged to attend.
You will receive:
- Practical information on how to manage floodplains to minimize flood damages.
- Explanations of NFIP terms and rules.
- An introduction to understanding NFIP maps and flood insurance studies.
- An understanding of the NFIP construction and development requirements.
- Information about Building Code requirements for projects in flood hazard areas.
- Department of State sanctioned Continuing Education Units.
