Walking Tours of Jefferson Street Cemetery
The Jefferson Street Cemetery committee and the Ellicottville Historical Society will present its 1st Annual Walking Tours of Jefferson Street Cemetery on Saturday, July 20, 2013. The tours will begin at the Ellicottville Historical Society, 2 Washington Street, Ellicottville, New York.
The participants of the Jefferson Street Cemetery walking tour will learn some history about our quaint little village and how some of the residents of our cemetery were instrumental in the growth of our village. Tour guides will guide you from the Ellicottville Historical Society Museum to the St. John’s Episcopal Church, to the Saxton-Ellis homestead and then a wagon ride to the cemetery where you will hear the stories of some of our residents (and get to meet some actors and actresses who will be portraying some of our more interesting residents!)
Tour times are 1 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Children under 5 are free. Tickets can be purchased before the tours on-site.
The proceeds will benefit the Jefferson Street Cemetery and will be used to purchase a stone or bench to memorialize those that are buried there with no headstone, a Jefferson Street Cemetery sign, a plaque to recognize the National Registry status and some landscaping around the sign.
