"Volunteers needed to preserve ASP's Ryan Trail cabins! The cabins have a rich history, lying in land that was settled by Quakers in the 19th century and eventually transferred to New York State in 1921. In the years following ASP's founding, the CCC constructed these cabins for park visitors. Today, the large park remains a source of relaxation and recreation for visitors, however the Ryan Trail Cabins are in a state of deterioration and need work to ensure these popular cabins are available for rent for years to come. Spots are still open to volunteer to preserve these cabins! Register today to be a part of preserving our shared history: http://historicorps.org/events/ryan-trail-cabins/."

HistoriCorps is partnering with NYS Parks and Allegany State Park to lead this effort. *HistoriCorps saves historic places for public benefit through partnerships that foster public involvement, engage volunteers and provide training and education.

Volunteer

Volunteers on this project will work on historic structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the decades following the park's founding in 1921. During this time period, cabin accommodations soon became equal or greater in popularity to tent camping, the park built the Ryan Trail Cabins. Allegany State Park remains a source of relaxation and recreation for visitors, however the Ryan Trail Cabins are in a state of deterioration and need work to once again become an overnight rental opportunity for guests. They are located in a delightful area of the park, near a crystal-clear stream and several hiking trails. Join HistoricCorps on this project to rehabilitate ten historic cabins!
