A smoke alarm distribution program has begun in the fire districts of Cattaraugus, Franklinville, Hinsdale, West Valley and South Dayton. The purpose of this program is to reduce the incidence of fire-related injury and mortality, increase the prevalence of functioning smoke alarms, and promote fire safety knowledge among residents.
The high quality, lithium power smoke alarms were awarded to the Cattaraugus County Health Department through a grant from the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Injury Prevention. In order to adequately disseminate the smoke alarms, the Health Department has joined forces with Edward Koorse, Director and Fire Coordinator of Department of Emergency Services of Cattaraugus County.
Any resident of the fire districts in need of a smoke alarm should contact their local fire department or Edward Koorse, Director of Emergency Services at 938-9111 extension 2240. There is no charge(free!) for the smoke alarms or installation.
