Senior Public Health Sanitarian

Cattaraugus County Health Department has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Public Health Sanitarian. This is a supervisory position overseeing field staff, inspection programs of regulated facilities, and other administrative and public health related duties. Full Benefits. Distinguishing Features of the Class:

This is professional work involving responsibilities for planning, supervising and carrying out one or more environmental health programs in a municipality having less than 100,000 population. Supervision is directly exercised over assigned technical and support staff. Performs activities of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility under the general direction of the Environmental Health Director. A Senior Public Health Sanitarian does related work as required.

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Comprehensive knowledge of environmental health principles and protocols; thorough knowledge of Public Health Laws, regulations, and modern inspection methods; ability to develop and maintain good public relations; ability to prepare and deliver effective talks and secure the interest and cooperation of civic groups and officials; ability to exercise supervisory authority; good professional judgment; physical condition sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.

Salary Range

$26.58 - $29.73 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

Promotional:

Two (2) years of permanent competitive class status as Public Health Sanitarian.

Open Competitive:

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with a Bachelor's degree including a minimum of thirty (30) credit hours in the physical and biological sciences acceptable to the State Commissioner of Health and two (2) years of satisfactory experience in environmental health activities as a Public Health Sanitarian.

Special Requirements:

Completion of a training course approved by the State Health Department and must possess and maintain a driver's license which is valid for operating a vehicle in New York State.
