Information on the Medical Records Technician position

The Cattaraugus County Department of Nursing Homes is seeking qualified
applicants for the position of Medical Record Technician to work at its’ Pines—
Olean facility. The selected applicant will serve on a provisional (temporary)
basis pending successful qualification on a Civil Service Examination. This is a
full-time technical position involving the assembly, maintenance and retrieval of
medical records for residents of a nursing home.

Minimum qualifications include:

Graduation from high school and either:

A.) Graduation from a regionally

accredited or New York State registered two-year college with an Associate
Degree in medical record technology; OR

B.) Two years of full time paid

experience in the preparation and maintenance of medical records and statistics,
which must have included each of the following:
1. Coding and indexing of medical diseases and surgical procedures:
2. Participation in the development, filing and maintenance of health
facility medical records;
3. Analysis and evaluation of medical records;
4. Development of statistical data derived from medical records used for
medical and/or administrative analysis.
