Swine Flu update

Cattaraugus County Health Department, announced the following updates regarding Swine FLU (H1N1):

  • CDC case definitions:

    • Suspected case of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection is a person with fever and cold-like symptoms with onset within 7 days of close contact with a person who is a confirmed case of swine influenza A (H1N1), or within 7 days of travel to a community either within the U.S. or internationally where there are one or more cases, or resides in a community where there are one or more confirmed cases

    • Probable case of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection is a person with high fever and cold-like symptoms who is positive for influenza A but negative for H1 and H3

    • Confirmed case of swine influenza A (H1N1) infection is defined as a person with fever and cold-like symptoms with lab confirmed swine influenza A (H1N1) infection at CDC by one or more tests

 

  • Monitoring continues for schools, colleges, and hospitals on a daily basis

  • Day care centers have been informed and educated

  • Information updates have been sent to all county employees as well as several agencies and organizations

  • Cattaraugus County‚Äôs web site is updated daily (www.cattco.org) with links to poster and other educational materials at the CDC

  • Director of Emergency Services/ Fire Coordinator, Chris Baker, has participated in all daily county briefings and NYS DOH conference calls

  • Dr. Witte and Ms. Hastings are consulting with Board of Health and with other key leaders at the county level to review current and future plans
