New Exhibit Opens at Cattaraugus County Museum featuring Local Artist
A new exhibit, “The Art and Artistry of Norman Maffei” is now open at the Cattaraugus County Museum. Mr. Maffei, a Franklinville native, has been an active artist for over seven decades. A WWII veteran, Maffei was once considered as a replacement for famous Army artist Bill Mauldin as a cartoonist for the 45th “Division News”. Mr. Maffei’s service during the war as well as his time in the Merchant Marines served as inspiration for his art, as evidenced by much of the work featured in this exhibit. The museum is displaying several of his WWII drawings, cartoons, soldier sketches, paintings, as well as some of Mr. Maffei’s maritime art. This exhibit will run through August 2010.
The museum is located on the first floor of the Stone House, 9824 Route 16, Machias. Our hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. From May through October we will have hours on the third Saturday of each month, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Our phone number is 716-353-8200.
