Cattaraugus County Sheriff Alerts Public to Phone Scam

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a phone scam that is generating in the Cattaraugus County Area.

Residents are being contacted by phone by an automated message from HSBC Bank stating that their debit or checking accounts have been frozen and then they are prompted to reactivate by pressing number one and then asking for your account number.

Do not respond to the numbers in the recording.

If you have an account with HSBC, and you feel that your account has been tampered with contact your HSBC Bank Branch and speak to a representative.

If you have experienced financial loss at your branch due to these scams, contact your local law enforcement immediately.

Residents are reminded to never give out any personal information over the telephone.
