Cattaraugus County Emergency Operations Center is open and actively monitoring Hurricane Sandy.  We have received regular updates from the National Weather Service and have created this post to update everyone on what can be expected over the next few days.

In summary, Cattaraugus County can expect light rain this morning and early afternoon, unrelated to the Hurricane/ Tropical Storm.  Beginning at 5 p.m. today, Monday, October 29, 2012, we will begin to see effects from Sandy - to include rain and wind.  Monday evening through Tuesday morning we can expect a total of 1 to 2.5 inches of rain and strong winds from the North/ Northeast.

Areas prone to flooding may see some mild, localized flooding beginning Monday night.  Most significant issues will be trees and powerlines down due to the wind.  Other than the possibility of electrical outages, effects of Sandy are predicted to cease by Tuesday morning and we will resume normal weather from that point forward.

Please see the attachment below for more information regarding your preparedness for the coming storm.
