Trick or treat? A Halloween party and a birthday party on the same day…definitely a treat!

Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced plans for the upcoming quarterly birthday party to be held at the senior wellness and nutrition (SWAN) sites. The birthday party will be held in conjunction with Halloween, and seniors are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costume. The parties will be held on Thursday, October 31, and will celebrate the birthdays of people born during the months of October, November and December. Mrs. Mackay said, “This is a great time for people to get together and celebrate one another’s birthdays. If you have never had the opportunity to visit the nutrition site and it is your birthday, we would like to invite you to attend this celebration.”

The parties will begin around noon at each of the 11 congregate dining sites in Cattaraugus County. The sites are located in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Delevan, Franklinville, Gowanda, Olean, Portville, Randolph, South Dayton, and West Valley. The menu will consist of homemade chili with saltine crackers, tossed salad and dressing, and apricot nectar. All sites will have a choice of reduced fat or fat-free milk. Dessert will be birthday cake and ice cream. Please note: The party in Little Valley will be held on Friday, November 1.

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance and can be made by calling the location of your choice. A suggested voluntary donation of $3.25 is requested towards the cost of the meal; however, no one will be denied a meal for the inability or the unwillingness to contribute.

If you are over 60 years of age and never been to a senior wellness and nutrition site before, this is the time to try it out. There is a good chance that you will meet up with an old friend or possibly meet a new one. If you have been to the nutrition site before, invite a friend to join you for the birthday party (and don’t forget to dress up for Halloween)!

For more information about the birthday party or any other services available to Cattaraugus County seniors, please call the Department of the Aging at 716-373-8032 or 1-800-462-2901.
