Do you need some relief from the cold and dark days of winter? If so, please join us at a senior nutrition site near you for the quarterly birthday party to be held on Thursday, January 30th. (The Little Valley location will hold their party on Friday, January 31.)

Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced plans for the upcoming quarterly birthday party to be celebrated at the county’s senior wellness and nutrition (SWAN) sites. The birthday party will be held on Thursday, January 30, and will celebrate the birthdays of people born during the months of January, February, and March. Mrs. Mackay said, “This is a great time for people to get together and celebrate one another’s birthdays. If you have never had the opportunity to visit the nutrition site in your community and your birthday falls within these months, we would like to invite you to attend this celebration.”

All of the sites will be serving lunch around noon. There are 11 congregate dining sites throughout Cattaraugus County and are located in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Delevan, Franklinville, Gowanda, Little Valley, Olean, Portville, Randolph, South Dayton, and West Valley. The menu will be homemade ham loaf with pineapple sauce, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, 12-grain bread, and tropical fruit salad. All sites will have a choice of reduced fat or fat-free milk. Dessert will be birthday cake and ice cream.

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance and can be made by calling the location of your choice. A suggested voluntary donation of $3.25 is requested towards the cost of the meal. No one will be denied a meal for the inability or the unwillingness to contribute.

If you are over 60 years of age and never been to a SWAN site before, this is a good time to stop by and experience the fun and fellowship your nutrition site can provide. There is a good chance that you will meet up with an old friend and possibly meet a new one. If you have been to the nutrition site before, we encourage you to invite a friend to join you for the birthday party.

For more information about the birthday party, or other services available to Cattaraugus County seniors, please call the Department of the Aging at 1-800-462-2901 or 716-373-8032.
