Outstanding Volunteer Community Contribution Award Recipients
The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) announced their Outstanding Volunteer Community Contribution Award recipients before a gathering of more than 300 people at the 42nd Annual Retired Senior Volunteer Recognition Reception held in May at the Great Valley Banquet Hall. This year the RSVP Advisory Council selected volunteers Stella Balcerzak and Beverly Miller.
Stella Balcerzak has been an RSVP volunteer for 17 years. During those years, she volunteered at the American Red Cross and the West Valley Senior Wellness and Nutrition (SWAN) program site and has served a total of 2,293 volunteer hours. According to the Kim Connell, Nutrition Program Director, Stella is at the nutrition site almost every day and is a great asset to the organization.
Beverly Miller has also been an RSVP volunteer for 17 years, volunteering at Olean General Hospital. During her 17 years as a volunteer, she has served a total of 4,837 hours. Crystal Page, Director of Volunteer Services at Olean General said, “Beverly may be small in stature, but she sure is a spitfire with a heart of gold. Her dedication, loyalty, and attention to detail have been instrumental to Olean General Hospital in so many ways.”
David Rodkey, RSVP Director, presented each of the honorees with a clock, representing their time and dedication to their community. They also received flowers donated by Mandy’s Florist of Olean.
In 2014, 526 active RSVP members contributed 49,000 volunteer hours in Cattaraugus County at more than 36 non-profit organizations/sites. According to the Washington-based Independent Sector National Volunteer Organization, the contribution made by these dedicated seniors is valued $1,314,670.
