Adoption Awareness Month

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is pleased to participate in “Adoption Awareness Month” to encourage families to consider adopting foster children who are waiting for a permanent home.

This month, the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services will join social services districts and agencies across the country in celebrating Adoption Awareness Month by hosting a reception for the adoption of Anthony.

Anthony will be adopted by his foster parents, Brandi and Shane, who have provided for his care for the past 17 months and previously adopted his older sibling. A special ceremony will be held at Cattaraugus County Family Court to complete the adoption with Hon. Michael Nenno presiding.

In 2015, the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services facilitated 21 adoptions. National Adoption Awareness Month is a time to not only celebrate the children and families that found each other through adoption, but also a time to re-emphasize the urgent need to increase the number of adoptions for those children awaiting permanent homes.

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services acknowledges the invaluable work being done by foster/adoptive families, our dedicated staff, advocates and professionals and Family Court personnel to facilitate the adoptions of children in foster care.

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is always looking for potential foster and/or adoptive homes.
