The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is pleased to participate in “Adoption Awareness Month” in November to encourage families to consider adopting foster children who are in need of finding a forever family.

This month, the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services will join social service districts and agencies across the county in celebrating Adoption Awareness Month by honoring all of those who have opened their home and their hearts to children through adoption.

In celebration of National Adoption Month, Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services would like to honor a special family. Brandon and Meghan Snyder became certified foster parents in the Fall of 2016. They came to the came to the Department of Social Services with the interest of helping a child or children who are in need of some stability and love during a time they are placed outside of their home. Brandon and Meghan have three birth children, and at the time of adoption had another child on the way. This wonderful family had the opportunity to become the forever family for beautiful Phoebe in October of 2017. Below is a picture of our honored family on adoption day! If you see these wonderful people, please congratulate them!

In 2016, the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services facilitated 23 adoptions. National Adoption Month is a time to not only celebrate the children and families that found each other through adoption, but also a time to re-emphasize the need to increase the numbers of adoptions for those children awaiting adoption and/or a permanent home. So far, this year we have been able to finalize forever homes for 16 children.

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services acknowledges the invaluable work being done by foster/adoptive families, our dedicated staff, advocates and professions and Family court personnel to facilitate the adoptions of children in foster care who are moving to adoption.

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is always looking for potential foster and/or adoptive homes. If you are interested in learning more about foster care and adoption, please contacting Adoption Caseworker and Home finder Kayla Chesebro at 716-701-3664 or call the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services general number at 716-373-8070 and ask to speak with someone about foster care and adoption.
