USDA Designates 8 Counties in New York as Primary Natural Disaster Areas

WASHINGTON, D.C., Aug. 16, 2011 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated 8 counties in New York as primary natural disaster areas due to damage and losses caused by excessive rain, flash flooding, high winds, lightning and cooler than normal temperatures that occurred March 1 – June 1, 2011.

Attention Horse Owners; It’s not too late to vaccinate!

There is still time for horse owners to vaccinate their horses with the dog days of summer just underway.  If you already vaccinated; consider vaccinating for Equine Encephalitis and West Nile virus. Equine encephalitis (eastern (EEE), western (WEE) or Venezuelan (VEE)) and West Nile Virus (WNV) belong to a group of viral diseases known as “Arboviruses”, diseases transmitted from asymptomatic wild birds and rodents to horses by biting insects like mosquitoes.

Snowmobile Funding Presented to Cattaraugus County Federation of Snowmobilers

Nine area snowmobile clubs that maintain trails in Cattaraugus County will benefit from the annual snowmobile registration fees collected by New York State. New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation recently awarded Cattaraugus County, the municipal sponsor, $170,470.00 in funding to help improve and maintain the 359 miles of funded snowmobile trails in Cattaraugus County.
