With spring upon us, and canning the summer’s harvest right around the corner, now is the time to schedule your appointment to have your Dial Gauge Pressure Canner tested for accuracy. It is essential that low-acid vegetables, meats, fish and poultry are processed by pressure canning, and each year it is important to have your Dial Gauge Pressure Canner tested to insure that the food you offer to your family is safe.
Not sure what to do with your rural acreage? Do you have some land you want farmed out or are you a farmer looking for some extra acreage? If so, you may be joining the ranks of the many landowners and farmers in the Northeast who, by working together are helping keep the “working landscape” open and productive. Cornell Cooperative Extension will host 2 meetings to assist land owners understanding of options to put their land resource to work for them.
Nine area snowmobile clubs that maintain trails in Cattaraugus County will benefit from the annual snowmobile registration fees collected by New York State. New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation recently awarded Cattaraugus County, the municipal sponsor, $170,470.00 in funding to help improve and maintain the 359 miles of funded snowmobile trails in Cattaraugus County.

As you look outside your home take notice to all that nature has to offer, the lush lawn, the flowering shrubs, and the tall trees. Now ask yourself, “would the lawn be as nice if I never mowed it?”, and “would the shrubs flower as well if I never pruned them?” The answer would be no. So why is so little thought given to the health and welfare of the trees around us?
