Important Change in the Monthly Child Safety Seat Program in 2011

The Cattaraugus County Child Safety Seat Program, sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office, Health Department and Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, will implement important new changes in 2011.

Beginning with the January 20, 2011 check, appointments will be required for the Fitting Station, conducted at the Allegany Fire Department on the third Thursday of every month.

Cattaraugus County to Waive Fees at Transfer Stations for Storm Debris

The Cattaraugus County Legislature has unanimously approved a measure to allow Cattaraugus County residents affected by the recent flooding throughout the region to dispose of storm debris free of charge at the Portville, Allegany, and Salamanca Transfer Stations on Saturday, December 11th and Saturday, December 18th.

The Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services along with representatives of the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services, Department of Aging, Department of Health and Community Services will be available at the newly opened Disaster Assistance Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th at 1 Leo Moss Drive (Cattaraugus County Office Building) Olean; for residents in need of assistance related to this weeks flooding. Concerned residents may contact the Disaster Operations Center at 716-938-2244

Allegheny River has Crested

The Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services reports that the Allegheny River has crested at both the Salamanca and Olean river gauge locations. Residents should continue to use caution when faced with high water scenarios in and around their homes.

A State of Emergency remains in effect for the Village of Allegany and the Town of Portville.

Allegany Transfer Station is open as normal.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this difficult time.

Portville Transfer Station is open as normal.

All other stations are operating as normal.
