The ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program is designed to provide individuals with little or no prescription coverage access to affordable medications. Since Cattaraugus County implemented the discount card back in May of 2012, residents have collectively filled more than 3,700 prescriptions and saved more than $200,000.
Trick or treat? A Halloween party and a birthday party on the same day…definitely a treat!
Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced plans for the upcoming quarterly birthday party to be held at the senior wellness and nutrition (SWAN) sites. The birthday party will be held in conjunction with Halloween, and seniors are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costume. The parties will be held on Thursday, October 31, and will celebrate the birthdays of people born during the months of October, November and December. Mrs. Mackay said, “This is a great time for people to get together and celebrate one another’s birthdays. If you have never had the opportunity to visit the nutrition site and it is your birthday, we would like to invite you to attend this celebration.”
The Cattaraugus County Suicide Prevention Coalition is proud to host "The Enemy Within: Police, Veteran, and First Responder Suicide Awareness Training" with presenters Robert Douglas, Jr. of the National Police Suicide Foundation, and Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department.

With public participation at an all-time high after six prior events in three years, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and its national, tribal, and community partners will hold a seventh National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at thousands of sites across America on Saturday the 26th. These Take Back Days give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs. Collection sites are open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is pleased to announce the completion of another very successful Summer Youth Employment Program. This summer, Department of Social Services staff assisted 149 area youth from communities across Cattaraugus County.

Jolly Old St. Nick made an early visit to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office to meet with the Santa Sheriff’s Program Director Deputy Brian Keis to discuss the growing need for area families in the 2013 giving season. He was pleased to find that efforts have been ongoing this year with monthly raffle baskets and that letters will be going out to area businesses seeking local support through monetary donations. These donations will help the program purchase gifts for families in the community.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a phone scam that is generating in the Cattaraugus County Area. Residents are receiving phone calls from individuals stating that they are from the Federal Government informing tax payers that they have won Federal Grant Monies. Residents are being instructed to go to aWestern Unionand wire $250.00 in order to receive their grant prize money.
