The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is ready to help area youth find summer jobs through the Summer Youth Employment Program. The Department will assist youth between the ages of 14 and 20 who meet eligibility requirements with job interview skills, professional conduct and in finding work.
Last year Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services staff assisted 149 area youth from communities across Cattaraugus County.

The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force was asked to assist Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office Criminal Bureau, after they executed a search warrant at 11520 Bolton Rd Yorkshire, N.Y.
The listed defendants Ryann C. Skiver and Megan Shimburski were charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fifth degree, unlawful growing of marihuana, criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of marihuana in the fourth degree.
The birthday party will be held on Thursday, May 1, with the exception of Little Valley, where it will be held on May 2. The event will celebrate the birthdays of people born during the months of April, May, and June.
The Mental Health Association and Suicide Prevention Coalition of Cattaraugus County are sponsoring a FREE Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention training to the community on Tuesday June 24, 2014 from 1-2:30 PM in the Magnano Room at the Cutco Theater at the JCC Olean Campus. This training is free and open to anyone who is interested.

On Tuesday, April 29th, 2014, the Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning & Tourism is hosting the first of three Open Houses on the creation of a comprehensive plan that will guide the future of Cattaraugus County. It will be held at the Cutco Theater on the JCC Campus in Olean, 260 North Union Street. Additional open houses will be held on Thursday, May 8th, at the King Memorial Library in Machias, and on Wednesday, May 14th, at the County Center Building in Little Valley.

The Village of Gowanda is now participating in the Code Red notification system. This emergency notification system will allow officials to alert residents and first responders of urgent concerns such as impending flooding or severe weather. In order to be added to the database for notification, you must sign up online at the link below.

March 16, through May 14, 2014
During this time period, no open burning shall be allowed. Opening burning may be allowed between May 15, and March 15, provided requirements are met and no further bans are in place through local or State regulation.

Community Comes Together to Support Campaign to Keep Kids and
Water Supply Safe
Nearly 3 dozen sites throughout Western New York will host a medication drop-off day on April 26h, 2013 from 10am to 2pm. It’s the largest single day drop-off in Western New York. The Drug Enforcement Administration is leading the effort as part of a national campaign with the support of local police agencies, Kids Escaping Drugs, UB and D’Youville Schools of Pharmacy, Erie County DEP, IHA, Covanta , Catholic Health System, Kalieda Health System and West Herr Automotive Group.
The Cattaraugus County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has nominated two volunteers, Mary Martello and Betty Jean Greene, for the 2014 New York State Senior Citizen’s Award entitled, “Unleash the Power of Age.” This award is to recognize older New Yorkers who have demonstrated the power of making a difference through civic engagement. Each county has the opportunity to nominate two volunteers for this prestigious award.
