Sheriff's Office Employees Accept the ALS (Ice Bucket) Challenge

Employees from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.  Watch the video and the reactions of the employees, who then went on to challenge the Sheriff's Departments from Erie, Chautauqua and Allegany Counties!  The Benelovent Fund also donated $250 to help fight this progressive neurodegenerative disease.

There will be rabies clinics held at Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works garages in early September.  All three rabies clinics will be open from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Cattaraugus County Youth Recipients of Bicycles at 2014 Fair

Two area youth are the proud recipients of new mountain bikes, courtesy of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Employees Benevolent Association and the New York State Police. Every year at the Cattaraugus County Fair in Little Valley, boys and girls are eligible to enter a drawing for one boy's bicycle and one girl’s bicycle. This year's winners are, from left to right, Sarah Maguda of Little Valley and Layne Taylor of Little Valley. Each youth also received a bicycle safety helmet donated by Walmart.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a Bow Hunters' Education Class on the following dates and time: Monday, September 1, 2014 and Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 4:30 to 10:00 p.m. The class will be held at Camp Allegany, Allegany State Park, New York.

SHERIFF TIMOTHY WHITCOMB ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM 

Cattaraugus County Sheriff Timothy S. Whitcomb announced today that 31 children from the county are attending the New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute’s 2014 Summer Camp.  The Sheriffs’ Summer Camp is designed to provide a solid recreational program combined with the development of a sense of good citizenship.  

20th Annual Public Hearing and Senior Forum

Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced that the agency’s Twentieth (20th) Annual Senior Forum and Public Hearing will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Ellicottville Elementary School beginning at 9:00 a.m. The forum is open to all persons age 60 and older who are residents of Cattaraugus County.

Cattaraugus County Saves Residents More than $300,000 with ProAct Prescription Discount Card

In May 2012, Cattaraugus County and ProAct implemented a free prescription discount card program for all county residents. Over the course of two years, Cattaraugus County residents have achieved a combined savings of over $300,000 on nearly 5,400 prescriptions filled.
