The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a hunters’ education class for the gun portion only on the following dates and time: Tuesday, October 4, 2016 and Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The class will be held at the Salamanca Central High School in Salamanca, New York.
There is no charge for the class. Participants must attend both days of instruction to receive a certificate. It is preferable that participants be at least 12 years of age. If a parent wants an 11-year-old to take the class, the parent must attend and sit with

September is National Preparedness Month. Sponsored by FEMA, National Preparedness Month recognizes the need to educate citizens to prepare for and respond to all types of emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, in conjunction with the Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services, can provide you with many tips on how to keep yourself and your elderly loved ones prepared in case of a local disaster.
Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging/NY Connects, had announced earlier in the year that Cattaraugus County had been awarded 760 Senior Farmers’ Market coupon booklets. These booklets were all distributed with none remaining. However, this week the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging/NY Connects received 60 more coupon booklets in an unexpected second allotment.
The Annual WILMA Wooly Bear Weekend will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and October 23, 2016 11:00 am – 3:00 pm in the Corporate Building at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds in Little Valley, New York.
