Balance your life. Powerful Tools for Caregivers. Are you providing care for a relative or friend? Free Powerful Tools for Caregivers Classes.

Do you help an older relative or friend? Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed from juggling your own life and the responsibilities of caregiving? If so, you may benefit from our FREE Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a 6 week course sponsored by the Cattaraugus County Department of Aging and New York Connects. During this FREE 6 week course, you will learn to: reduce your stress; improve your self-confidence; better communicate your feelings; balance your life; increase your ability to make tough decisions; and, locate helpful resources.

Sheriff's Office Offers Bow Hunters' Education Class

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Bow Hunters’ Education Class on the following dates and time: Monday September 4, 2017 and Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.  The class will be held at the Hideaway Archery in Dayton, New York.

There is no charge for the class.  Participants must attend both days of instruction to receive a certificate.  It is preferable that participants be at least 12 years of age.  If a parent wants an 11-year-old to take the class, the parent must attend and sit with the child on both days.

Diabetes Prevention Program Starting Up

Do you have pre-diabetes?

The Cattaraugus County Department of Aging/NY Connects will be offering a Diabetes Prevention Program, FREE, for anyone 18 years of age or older, at-risk or diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Classes will begin Tuesday, September 19, 2017, 10:00-11:00 AM and continue every Tuesday for 16 weeks, with additional support classes monthly after the 16 weekly classes. The program will be held at the Center for Regional Excellence, 4039 Route 219, Suite 200, Salamanca, NY 14779. To register, call Stacy Lockwood at (716) 373-8032.

County EDPT Release Community Visioning Consultant Request for Proposal

With funding made available by the Appalachian Regional Commission, Cattaraugus County is currently accepting proposals for Community Visioning Consultant that will develop and complete three area wide community assessments (four areas that include seven municipalities); facilitate a two day intensive training for municipal leaders, and follow-up assistance for municipalities in Cattaraugus County. The community assessments will be used to further economic development by providing baseline data or a foundation for the community development efforts.
