The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging has recently logged a number of tips from older adults who have stated that they received calls regarding medical alert devices. The senior citizens indicate that initially the call appears to be a human being, but it is actually a computerized calling system that has a way of responding to key words. The caller states that a medical alert device will be provided at no cost to the senior.
Jolly Old St. Nick recently made a call to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Program Director Deputy Brian Keis to get an update and final count on the 2013 giving season. He was pleased to hear that fundraising efforts brought in nearly $7,600; a number much higher than last season. Deputy Keis reports that the program provided Christmas presents and dinner for 32 County families a total of 131 men, women, and children. This is 6 more families than last year and is the highest number that the program has seen since it began in 2004. Each year we find a greater need for help in our communities and we do everything possible to provide as many as we can.
