The National Weather Service joins with the New York state office of emergency management in promoting winter weather safety to all new yorkers during winter weather awareness week October 21st to 27th.

There will be a rabies clinic held at the Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works garage in Little Valley.  This rabies clinics will be open from 9 am to noon on January 5, 2013.

The Early Identification & Recognition Program on behalf of the suicide prevention coalition of Cattaraugus County is pleased to announce the Lifelines Postvention Training; a free one day training for school-based response to suicide and sudden tramuatic death. This one day training helps school crisis teams review current procedures for suicide and other traumatic deaths in the school community.

Licensed land surveyors receive required training

LITTLE VALLEY, NEW YORK (October 2, 2012) – Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works (DPW) recently hosted a continuing education webinar for licensed land surveyors in the Allegany Plateau Chapter of the New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors. This webinar, entitled “Ethics and Professional Courtesy,” is a required course for license renewal. Bill Kankolenski, DPW Surveyor and Vice President of the Allegany Chapter, coordinated this one-day training for all association members.

Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan continues to make progress

Cattaraugus County continues to seek public comments on its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. A web form questionnaire for the public is available online through the County’s website at http://www.cattco.org/form/hazard-mitigation-plan-few-questions. The five-question survey is easy to complete and will assist the County in completing its mandatory five-year update of its existing plan.

Santa Sheriff's Program Kicks off Ninth Year of Giving!

Jolly Old St. Nick made an early visit to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office to meet with the Santa Sheriff’s Program Director Deputy Brian Keis to discuss the growing need for area families in the 2012 giving season.  He was pleased to find that efforts have been ongoing this year with monthly raffle baskets and that letters will be going out to area businesses seeking local support through monetary donations.  These donations will help the program purchase gifts for families in the community. 

Cattaraugus County Health Department Receives $450,000 Community Transformation Grant Funding

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded more than $100 million to national, state, and local organizations to prevent diseases and to improve the health in communities across the nation. The funding will be made through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) in the form of its expanded Community Transformation Grants (CTG) program, which will support neighborhoods, towns, and small communities with populations of less than 500,000. These new awards will implement strategies to reduce chronic diseases, by making healthy living easier for all people, especially those hardest hit by these diseases.
