HERR Closing Date is January 9, 2015

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services has been advised by the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) today that Friday, January 9, 2015 is the closing date for the Heating Equipment Repair and Replacement (HERR) component of the 2014-15 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Please note that the HEAP program itself is scheduled to continue through March 15.

Become a Foster Parent Meeting

If you have ever thought about becoming a foster parent, the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services will be holding an informational meeting on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the Department of Social Services located at One Leo Moss Drive, Olean, NY 14760. The purpose of the informational meeting is to provide information to all families that have expressed an interest in being foster care/adoptive resources for children within the community.

Successful Santa Sheriff Giving Season!

 

Little Valley, NY – Sheriff Timothy S. Whitcomb announced today that the Santa Sheriff Program  provided Christmas presents and dinner for 44 Cattaraugus County families a total of 173 men, women, and children. This is 9 more families than last year and is the highest number that the program has seen since it began in 2004.

NY State Aging Association Welcomes local Director to its Board of Directors

The Association on Aging in New York elected three Area Agency on Aging Directors to its Board of Directors at its Leadership Institute in October:  Julie Allen Aldrich (Monroe County), Ken Genewick (Niagara County) and Cathy Mackay (Cattaraugus County). Each will serve a two-year term beginning in January of 2015.

Social Services' November Employment Report: 23 people now in the workforce

Twenty-three people, who were receiving welfare benefits are now employed, reports Cattaraugus County’s Department of Social Services. 

Social Services staff report that in November, 23 county residents received training, work experience and a chance to get high school equivalency diplomas when necessary. The 23 Social Services clients were assisted by department staff in order to help them enter the workforce to reduce or eliminate their need for public assistance. 

Holiday Party schedule at County Nutrition Sites

Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced plans for the Senior Wellness and Nutrition program holiday meals in December. Mrs. Mackay declared, “Dining with friends at a nutrition site is more fun than riding in Santa’s sleigh on Christmas night!”

Urgent need for Meals on Wheels Volunteers in Randolph

The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging’s Senior Wellness and Nutrition program needs your help. We are currently looking for volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels in the Randolph area. The meals are picked up at the Randolph nutrition site which is open Monday through Friday. Most volunteers deliver 7 to 12 meals once a week and it takes about one hour (10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.) to complete a delivery route. There is also a need for volunteers to assist at the congregate site by setting tables, assisting in food prep, and cleaning up after lunch.
