"Business Basics" Class
Each weekly class teaches the fundamental information required to start a new business. Potential and existing entrepreneurs gain knowledge on all facets of business ownership and start up as well as their responsibilities in tax filing, employee record keeping, and accounting. Development of a Business Plan (required by the majority of lenders) is covered in detail. Although classes target individuals with little or no business experience, many topics will be of interest to existing small business owners. Basic Bookkeeping
Starting your own business? Need help in understanding the bookkeeping process? Like to know the difference between a journal and a ledger? Then this is the class for you!
The Cattaraugus County Business Development Corporation (CCBDC), a non-profit corporation, is sponsoring a four-night class focusing on basic bookkeeping skills. Lenora Leasure, CCBDC Business Counselor, will instruct in basic bookkeeping concepts, terminology and basic skills in:
- Double-entry accounting
- What a "T" account is and how to use it
- Use of journals and ledgers
- Working with accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Typical financial statements
- Working with accounting software
Classes are held two nights per week so you won't forget between sessions! This class is targeted for beginners and to those wishing to advance to accounting software. (You need to understand what the software is doing with your numbers.)

Website Design & Development
Thinking of your own Website? Want to promote your business? Want to sell online? Don't know where to start? Confused with terminology?
(Four weeknight class, 6:30 - 9:00 pm) You'll learn the following:
- Terminology
- Website design & Development
- Selecting a Domain Name
- Selecting a Website Host
- Website Marketing
- Associated Costs and appropriate cost
- Open Source (free) Software
- The basics of E-commerce
- Software for website development, monitoring, and maintenance.
- and most importantly, pitfalls to avoid!
Classes are taught by the Cattaraugus County website technician.
Participants need to be familiar with computers, email and using a web browser (such as Firefox, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla and etc.).
Family Values / Family Business
(Two evenings, 6:30 to 9:00 pm) Thinking of starting a family owned, family run business? Kids going to work in the business? Make sure everyone is on the same page through this course. Values, expectations, commitment -all are explored through class exercises and one night of "take home" homework for thoughtful assessment of what you want to achieve through a family business. Targeted for beginning business owners, but valuable for any family-owned small business.
Four Week "Affordable Marketing"
An in-depth marketing class designed for small businesses that don't have a large marketing budget. This class is being scheduled.
Schedule C Class
Own you own business and want to understand the Schedule C tax form? In this class, learn what qualifies as an expense, what back up information you need, and detailed information on filing the tax form

Employment Taxes for the Employer
