Back and Forward: Much like the back and forward buttons on an internet browser.  Back will bring you to back to your previous extent, while forward will bring you to your more recent extents.  This provides a simple way to move between views without having to use zooming.

Zoom Slide Bar: Clicking the + or - buttons will move your view in or out 1 level.  You can also click and drag the ball on the bar to quickly move between zoom heights.

TIP - if there is a scroll wheel on your mouse, it will by default control the zoom slide bar.

Box Zoom and Panning: When the hand tool is active, you can move around on the map while remaining at the same zoom level.  With the magnifying glass tools active you will click and drag to create boxes that control where you zoom in or out to.

TIP - holding the Shift key and dragging your mouse will allow you to Box Zoom without clicking the tool

Information Tools (Widgets):

Cursor:  Now, you can identify almost every feature on the map by just clicking on or in it; no tool need be open!  For instance, at anytime, just click inside a parcel with your mouse to get information on that parcel.

Layers: by default, this tool is preloaded open already.  This widget contains all of the map layers.  The layers are divided up into categories, which always remain on.  Expand these categories to find the layers you would like to turn on.  Once you have found the features and turned them on, if you click the plus sign by the layer name a legend will show.

TIP - "Parcels and Tax Map Info" is a group of features that can be expanded, but will also turn on by just clicking the category's check box.

Find an Address: this tool opens immediately to an address search box.  The search will work best if the following format is used:

123 Somewhere Street Little Valley NY 14755

However, if you only type in as much as you know, any address that comes close will be presented.

The blue pin icon in the corner will allow you to search for latitude and longitude coordinates.  The graph icon is your results view.

Enhanced Search: this tool also is open by default when you get to the page.  Preselected for the user is the text search.  Choose the layer you are searching and the value of that layer you would like to search by.

Across the top of the widget box, to the left of the text search selection is a graphical search option.  Choose the layer you are searching again, then choose a drawing tool: freehand, point, line, square, or polygon.  The search will return all values of the layer you searched via the drawing method.

To the right of the text search is the buffering operations.  With a feature you have searched and found still selected, set a buffering distance in feet.  Click the Apply Buffer button to set the buffer, or the Clear button to erase it.  Once you have a buffer, you can search instances of other layers that are entirely contained in, intersected by, or intersected by an envelop of your buffer respectively by using the buttons at the bottom.

Parcel Information: this tool only works with the "Parcels and Tax Map Info" layer turned on.  When the tool opens the point selection method is chosen by default.  This is the most recommended, as the other selection methods may not link properly to the Parcel Information website.  Open the tool, click in a parcel, and a link to the parcel information will open in the screen.  You can also have the option to change the link method from "open in flash" to "open in new browser window".

Elevation Profile: choose this tool when you would like to see the elevation of an area.  When the widget opens, select which method of line to draw: single straight line, multi-part line, or a freehand line.  When the operation completes you will see a graph of the elevation across the line you have drawn.  If you move your cursor along the graph a red X will appear on the graph and the line so that you can trace the route.
