Real Property: Parcel Viewer Help Page
This help document is for the Real Property section of the Cattaraugus County website.
- This map is INTERACTIVE. This means that you can zoom, pan, find, query, measure, and do other manipulations to it.
- The viewer can be used over any Internet connection while using Internet Explorer 5 or higher, Netscape 6 or higher and Firefox any version. Opera and Mozilla have not been tested.
- The initial load of the map will take a little while. Afterwards the map will refresh at a faster rate.
- TURN OFF ALL POP-UP BLOCKERS!!
The RIGHT-HAND side contains the overview map, layers, and the Zoom to a Town or City feature.
Overview map -- this can be clicked on to center you on a specific area. It is also used to show you where you are looking at once you zoom in (the red box shows your view).
Layers -- there is a comprehensive help just below the layer names. You'll have to scroll down to see it.
Zoom to a Town or City -- this will automatically zoom you into the town or city of your choice.
- At the TOP are the buttons that you will use to manipulate the map. Their descriptions are as follows:
When clicked the layers on the right-hand side will change to show a legend.
This is the one that is automatically selected when the Map loads. To use it simply click on the map for a partial zoom-in, or click and drag for a certain area to be zoomed-in.
Its properties are the same as the zoom-in button, but it will zoom-out when used.
When clicked this will zoom you out to the entire county.
This is used to move the map without zooming. To use it simply click and hold down your mouse button while dragging the map.
This tool is used to bring up all the parcel information for a property. The information is updated on a weekly basis and includes 99% of the data that you would see if you came into the Real Property Offices. With the parcel layer turned on and highlighted you can click on this tool then click on a parcel to see its information.
This tool is used to show the base taxes for a property. These taxes DO NOT include exemptions, back taxes, new sidewalk taxes, unpaid water/sewer taxes, etc. They only show what that parcel pays as of the day you click on it. It's a good tool to use if you're buying or selling a property or for many other reasons. With the parcel layer turned on and highlighted you can click on this tool then click on a parcel to see its taxes.
You can use this tool to find out information of any highlighted layer. Click on a feature of the highlighted layer and the information will show up.

When selected you can measure between two or more points. A point will be placed each time you click and new measurements will show in the upper left-hand corner of the map.
This is used in conjunction with the MEASURE button. Click on this to chose between measuring in feet, miles, meters, or kilometers. Chose one of these then click on the “Set Units” button in the pop-up window.
When this tool is clicked on it will clear out any features that are highlighted.
