Cattaraugus County Assessment Rolls

The FINAL Rolls are those that are finalized on July 1st.  They are what is used for the upcoming tax year.

The TENTATIVE Rolls are those filed on May 1st.  They are for viewing purposes for the public before being finalized.

Between the tentative and final rolls is the time when complaints can be heard.

Equalization Rates

An equalization rate represents the average level of assessment in a community

Total Assessment minus Taxable Value equals the dollar amount of Exemptions on a property.

I think my assessment is too high - What should I do?

  1. Contact your local assessor first and discuss your concerns.
  2. You may review comparable properties and their assessment in your area by looking at the Tax Rate Comparison page and reviewing properties at the Interactive County Parcel Map. This may help you determine if your assessment, based on surrounding properties, are justified.

How can I apply for an exemption?

Contact your local assessor for information and applications.

Key Assessment Dates

Below are some important dates in the Real Property tax cycle.  These dates apply to Cattaraugus County.  Other areas of New York State may follow other dates.  The NYS ORPTS has more information on these dates.

January 1: Town and County Tax Collection Starts
