Reporting Flood Damage
Many areas of Cattaraugus County sustained significant damage from the flooding last week; and some continue to receive new damage even today. The Office of Emergency Services is working to compile damage information from all municipalities, businesses, and home owners. If your property has sustained damage related to the flooding, here is a short list of what to do to report these damages.

After the Flood: Tips and Resources
Your home or business has been flooded. Although floodwaters may be down in some areas, many dangers still exist. Here are some things to remember in the days ahead:
- Avoid moving water.
- Do not attempt rescue in damaged areas unless your assistance has been specifically requested by police, fire, or other emergency services.
- Emergency workers will be assisting people in flooded areas.
Join the Gowanda Emergency Notification System Now!
The Village of Gowanda is now participating in the Code Red notification system. This emergency notification system will allow officials to alert residents and first responders of urgent concerns such as impending flooding or severe weather. In order to be added to the database for notification, you must sign up online at the link below.

Area: CATTARAUGUS CREEK - THATCHER AND GRANNIS BROOKS
National Weather Services has posted alerts to all in the Cattaraugus Creek area, especially for those in the THATCHER and GRANNIS BROOK areas. Those areas are expected to experience significant flooding by 11 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday, Dec 22, 2014).
Residents in those areas are asked to take precautions immediately to protect their families and properties for incoming flood waters.
Gowanda Chamber of Commerce presents Zoar Valley Fest and Jamboree featuring Sean Patrick McGraw:
The event will consist of a 5k run, organized kayaking and rafting events on the Cattaraugus Creek. Music. Promotions by World Kayak Throwdown. Overnight camping for the weekend available at the firemen'...s park.( Fr-Sun) Fee: $20 per person or $15 pp for groups 10 or more. One night only is $10pp. The Gowanda cub scout pack 276 will be providing breakfast for a small price.

On October 4, Love INC of the Greater Gowanda Area along with various members of the community will be hosting a Gowanda Flood Relief Benefit, “Rock’n Relief ‘09”, in an effort to raise donations for rebuilding area homes and neighborhoods that were lost and damaged during the Gowanda flood of August 9-10, 2009. The Gowanda Flood Relief Benefit will be hosted at the Gowanda American Legion Post 409, located at 100 Legion Drive in Gowanda, New York. Read more

On August 25, 2009 the NY State Insurance Department is rolling their mobile services center to provide onsite support to answer consumer insurance questions in the Gowanda and Silver Creek areas. They will arrive in Gowanda Monday and setup at the Village Hall and be available to consult with disaster victims on Tuesday. Read more
