Daniel Joseph Brown will be speaking about "Farming through the Changing Years" and about the book "Donut on the Farm" by Cathy Lacy.

The Brown Farm is featured in the children's book "Donut on the Farm" and there will be a book signing by local author Cathy Lacy.

The Ellicottville Historical Society will offer a presentation describing the quilt code used by the Under Ground railroad at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Ellicottville Memorial Library.

The Cattaraugus County Museum is located on the ground floor of the Stone House, 9824 Rt. 16 Machias NY.

What are the museum's hours?

The standard hours of operation for the Cattaraugus County Museum are Tuesday through Friday, 9-4.

Research

We regret to inform our patrons that due to situations which arose during the 2013 summer, the following rules and regulations are in effect as of January 1, 2014.

Genealogical & General Research Rules

Only one (1) laptop computer, scanner, or camera allowed in research room or display area per person.

No cases, carry bags, large purses, etc. allowed in research room.

Maximum of ten (10) pages of your research material allowed in research room.

Each individual, researcher or guest, must sign in (current name and mailing address).  Read more

History of the Administrator's Position

On June 25, 1986 Cattaraugus County appointed it's first County Administrator. Prior to this appointment there was much discussion over the need for a full-time professional who would be responsible for overseeing the business that is county government. The consensus in Cattaraugus County was to go the route of a County Administrator. Read more

200 Years: A Musical Celebration

A new exhibit, "200 Years: A Musical Celebration" opens April 15, 2008 at the Cattaraugus County Museum. Among the items on display are an Edison Wax Cylinder Phonograph, a music typewriter, photographs of local bands, and the 1830s music manuscript of John Seeley who lived in Leon.

Coinciding with Cattaraugus County's Bicentennial Celebration, the exhibit will be on display through December 2008.

Pieces from the Past

On Sunday September 25, 2005 from one to four p.m. the Museum will open a new exhibit titled "Pieces from the Past" 19th and 20th century quilts from Cattaraugus County. All of the quilts on exhibit are from Cattaraugus County. The exhibit will have examples of all of the different types of quilt making shown in over a dozen quilts.

Something Old, Something New

Vintage Wedding GownThis exhibit will feature wedding gowns from 1830 throuogh the 1980's. A few gowns are on loan from other county historical societies, but most are from the County's collection. Special Opening Hours are May 1, 2005, 1 pm - 4 pm. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Friday 9:30 am - 4 pm, and the first Saturday of the months May through September 1-4 pm.
