Public Health Hazards

Everyday, you are exposed to many types of environmental contaminants and possibly disease carrying agents.  Some of these cause a great deal of anxiety for residents like cockroaches, but others like lead paint may go entirely unnoticed until a problem develops.  Being aware of these potential hazards and reducing the likelihood of exposure is important to safeguard your health.

The Environmental Health Division conducts several programs intended to reduce the risk of exposure to environmental hazards and control communicable disease carriers in Cattaraugus County. Read more

Investigation of General Public Health Complaints and Concerns

The Environmental Health Division regularly investigates County resident reports or complaints of public health hazards and nuisances throughout Cattaraugus County.  If you wish to file a complaint, please complete the “Environmental Health Complaint/Referral Form” (see link below), which may be faxed or mailed to the appropriate Environmental Health Office. Cattaraugus County Fire Coordinator - Christopher Baker

Within the Office of Emergency Services staff are the County Fire Coordinator and five Deputy Fire Coordinators, one for each county fire district (made up of multiple fire response districts/ fire departments) in Cattaraugus County.  These Coordinators oversee and direct fire service activity including training and response.

Dr. Kevin Watkins, Public Health Director of the Cattaraugus County Health Department has announced that there will be health screenings and educational information during National Public Health Week, April 5 – 11, 2010 at the Cattaraugus County Health Department located at 1 Leo Moss Drive in Olean, NY.
