Warning for Older Adults of Phone Scam about Medical Alert Devices

The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging has recently logged a number of tips from older adults who have stated that they received calls regarding medical alert devices. The senior citizens indicate that initially the call appears to be a human being, but it is actually a computerized calling system that has a way of responding to key words. The caller states that a medical alert device will be provided at no cost to the senior.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff Alerts Public to Phone Scam

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a phone scam that is generating in the Cattaraugus County Area.

Residents are being contacted by phone by an automated message from HSBC Bank stating that their debit or checking accounts have been frozen and then they are prompted to reactivate by pressing number one and then asking for your account number.

Do not respond to the numbers in the recording.

County Clerk Warns of Deed Copy Scam

Cattaraugus County Clerk James K. Griffith is urging all county residents to be very aware of a company called "New York Retrieval Inc". This company is sending letters to property owners in the county offering to secure a certified copy of the deed for their property for a fee of nearly $60.00.
