To access detention one of the following is required:

  • Remand from Family Court
  • Warrant from Family Court
  • Police admission (after business hours) a youth, less than 16 years old, charged with a crime
  • Runaway from a placement facility

The caseworker locates a facility and monitors and coordinates necessary services for the child while they remain in detention.

The Youth Bureau continuously recruits families willing to provide structure, supervision, and care to youth remanded to non-secure detention. Homes are certified as Family Boarding Care Facilities through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Casework service and support is available 24 hours a day.
