2015 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is pleased to join the New York State Bureau of Adult Services in recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Monday June 15, 2015 and asks Cattaraugus County residents to show their support by wearing purple to work that day.
The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services’ Adult Protection Unit assists our aging population by investigating allegations of elder abuse that include neglect, financial abuse and exploitation, psychological abuse and physical and sexual abuse of this vulnerable population.
If you suspect an elderly person in your community is the victim of elder abuse, call the State Office of Human Services call center at 1-844-697-3505 or the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services Adult Protection Unit at 716-373-8070.
The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services reminds area residents that there are steps to take to make a difference. Residents should learn the signs of neglect, call or visit an elderly loved one, provide a break for a caregiver, and ask your doctor and your banker to talk to elderly clients about potential abuse. Together, we can make a difference.
For more information about elder abuse and to find out how you can help, call the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services today at 716-373-8070. Remember to wear purple on June 15 to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
