Subaru's eighth Share the Love Event supports Cattaraugus County seniors! The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging's Senior Wellness and Nutrition program is proud to announce it has received a $2,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America's eighth annual Share the Love Event. During the event held from November 22, 2015, through January 2, 2016, Subaru of America, Inc. donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities, including Meals on Wheels America, of which Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging is a member.

Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, stated, "These monies help us here in Cattaraugus County to update old equipment, purchase supplies for emergency food bags, and serve more meals to homebound seniors. The Subaru Share the Love Event is truly a lifesaver to our program and to our seniors."

Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging partnered with several churches and agencies during the 2015 holiday season to collect non-perishable food, and to raise funds and awareness of senior isolation and hunger in Cattaraugus County.

The donated food and money collected from the community was used for shelf-stable emergency meal bags for Meals on Wheels recipients. Emergency meal bags provided food to be used when Meals on Wheels could not be delivered in Cattaraugus County due to winter weather.

"Over the last eight years, Subaru and its local retailers have truly become an extension of the Meals on Wheels family, and their impact is felt long after this popular year-end event concludes," said Ellie Hollander, Meals on Wheels America President and CEO. "Subaru's continued investment in the Meals on Wheels movement helps communities across the country deliver more nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to our most vulnerable seniors."

The 2015-2016 Share the Love funds will continue to benefit local Meals on Wheels America member organizations throughout the year through additional grant opportunities, Annual Conference scholarships, and by sponsoring the organization's annual March for Meals campaign.

The purpose of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging's Senior Wellness and Nutrition program is to maintain the independence, delay or prevent nursing home placement, and improve or maintain the current health status of homebound Meals on Wheels participants. If you have questions about Meals on Wheels or would like to volunteer, please call the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging at 716-373-8032 or 800-462-2901.
