The Cattaraugus County Museum and Research Library is pleased to announce the opening of it's new exhibit: "The National Pastime: Baseball in Cattaraugus County Museum." This centerpiece of this exhibit is the museum's Ed Tanner collection, focusing on the stellar career of the Franklinville Frankees standout. On May 18, 2016 a gray fox was found at a private residence on Canal Avenue off Route 16, just north of the City of Olean. This fox attacked a resident and several domestic animals.
Laboratory testing by the New York Stale Health Department confirmed that the animal was infected with the rabies virus.
Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging/NY Connects Can Help Older Adults Enroll
Beginning this week, Medicare beneficiaries will receive a letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA) if they may be eligible for help with their out-of-pocket medical and drug expenses. Cathy Mackay, Director of Department of the Aging/NY Connects, encourages beneficiaries who receive these letters to take action to learn more about the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) and Extra Help.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to its residents about scam artists reportedly posing as IRS employees.
The scam begins with a resident receiving a call from someone reporting to be an agent of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The caller informs the resident they owe money to the IRS and demands it be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest or suspension of a business or driver’s license.
The Cattaraugus County Museum and Research Library is excited to announce a new event coming this Spring. "Family Day at the Museum" will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 12-4. Part of New York State's "Path Through History" weekend, this event will be fun for kids of all ages and their families.
There will be live music provided by the WNY Fiddle Kids, hands on activities and games, as well as prizes! In addition, the museum's new exhibit on baseball in Cattaraugus County will be open!
The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is ready to help area youth find summer jobs through the Summer Youth Employment Program. The Department will assist youth between the ages of 14 and 20 who meet eligibility requirements with job interview skills, professional conduct and in finding employment.
