The New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute will begin its annual Honorary Membership drive in Cattaraugus County within the next few days according to Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb.
The New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute was established in 1979.

Over 100 Employees from the Department of Social Services dressed in blue on Thursday as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The campaign is designed to recognize the efforts of Child Protective Services Units and countless community partners to combat child abuse through awareness, advocacy and education.
The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services will recognize April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month with special events to draw attention to this important issue. On Thursday, April 9 county workers will draw attention to the cause by wearing something blue to work. County residents are asked to join in the campaign by dressing in blue.
The Cattaraugus County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has nominated two volunteers, Judi Blair and Jim White, for the 2015 New York State Senior Citizen’s Award. The theme for this year’s award is “Unleash the Power of Age.” This award is to recognize older New Yorkers who have demonstrated the power of making a difference through civic engagement. Each county has the opportunity to nominate two volunteers. The winners will be honored in Albany on May 5, 2015.
