Certificates of Relief from Disabilities
Please see the attached pamphlet for information regarding Certificates of Relief from Disabilities and Certificates of Good Conduct.
Additionally, if your application for a pistol permit or purchase of a firearm has been denied due to your criminal record, you may contact the Probation Department to determine if you are eligible for a Certificate of Relief to allow possession of a pistol permit and/or firearms. Your eligibility will be determined by the Probation Department based upon your criminal record, and the final decision, if you are eligible, will be determined by the original sentencing Court. This process will take three to four months.
If you are the subject of an existing, valid, Order of Protection, or have ever been convicted of a Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence, you are ineligible to possess a pistol permit or a firearm, regardless of any Certificate of Relief.
